Cette célébration commémore l’apparition de la Vierge Marie à un jeune indigène du nom de Juan Diego, en 1531. Au XVIIIe siècle, la Vierge de Guadalupe, mère bienveillante des indigènes, devient officiellement patronne de Mexico.
